Nikki Roberson is a ceramicist based in Norfolk, UK, who creates handbuilt stoneware and decorative pottery under the studio name Bird Box Pottery. After studying three-dimensional design and spending time away from the craft, she transitioned from an office career in 2017 to pursue ceramics full-time. 

Her work focuses heavily on abstract, organic designs influenced by landscapes, the natural world and architecture.

 

She works primarily without a pottery wheel, utilising slab-building and coiling techniques to form her structural ceramics.

Pieces are frequently embellished using hand-carved textures, such as her signature "fish scale" design, or detailed patterns impressed directly into the damp clay using specialised modeling tools. 

 

Nikki alternates between grogged buff stoneware clays (which give her work a distinct speckled texture), flecked stoneware clay and occasionally porcelain. Her colour compositions layer vibrant slips, stains, and custom glazes like a standout kiwi green or deep, oceanic blues and greens.

Flask Vases: Structural geometric slab-built vases featuring intricate surface carvings.

Coiled Bowls: Statement bowls boasting contrasting glossy glazes between the textured exterior and matt white interiors.

Box Jars: Square-form decorative lidded jars finished with a variety of glazes.
